And the 2012 European Championship winner is... Hertel

2012 – the year of the European Championship. Not only in football, but also in insulation engineering apprenticeships.

In February, the traditional biennial competition for European apprentices was organised in Berlin by FESI, the European federation for insulation companies.

A 12 strong group of talented insulation engineers went head-to-head, competing against one another over two days. The engineers tackled a variety of challenges, including the application of insulating materials to a complex configuration of pipework before cladding with sheet metal.

Current German Champion Artur Stabel, who is based in Lingen, represented Hertel in the competition, which proved to be a magnet for visitors at the event.

The event was sponsored by 18 leading members of the industry, who were looking to recruit new talent to the insulating industry. A number of Berlin’s schools brought their final year classes along to the show for guided tours, introducing them to the industry first hand.

In the end, the European Championship title stayed in Germany: Artur Stabel is the best apprentice insulation engineer in Europe.

His recipe for success is simple: strong self-motivation and self-confidence! Besides the school education and industrial training on-site, Artur credits his success to the training received at Hertel’s training school. “Great training workshop, and excellent trainers!” said Artur of his mentors Wolfgang Thiemann and Walter Riering.

In the coming years, Artur plans on continuing to extend his abilities and would like to visit the master school.

Many congratulations to Artur on his success, and best wishes for the future!
