Gold standard safety performance in France

Hertel’s exceptional safety performance has been recognised by client ExxonMobil in France.

The Hertel team at Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon (Le Havre), France, is working on a shutdown of ExxonMobil’s Distillation plant with the provision of scaffolding and insulation. The safe working performance of the 130 strong team on site has seen Hertel awarded a ‘Golden Palm’ by ExxonMobil.

The Golden Palm is awarded to companies that excel in safety. Pascal Van Looveren, Hertel’s Technical Director in France, explains: “There is a large sign on site with the names of all contracting companies working on the shutdown. Every company has its own ‘traffic light’ color: red, yellow or green. Green means a good performance and red a serious violation of safety rules.”

Hertel has scored a ‘green light’ on all criteria. “Therefore we are very glad to receive this award,” says Pascal. “Our team has done a really good job and I think we deserved this acknowledgement. It shows Exxon’s respect for the efforts of our team members on site. Congratulations to all.”

Team leader Damie Raphael, who plays a large part in the performance of his team during the shutdown, was handed a notebook by Maintenance Manager for ExxonMobil’s Gravenchon Refinery Stefaan Van Severen as well as a Golden Palm award for the team.

In 2011, Hertel’s safety performance was also recognised by ExxonMobil in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where the team were presented with the ‘All Green Award’ for excellent safety performance.
