The height of safety standards in Kazakhstan
The Hertel team in Kazakhstan are celebrating after achieving three of the most competitive international standards in quality, safety and environmental management.
The multi-disciplinary construction and maintenance company was endorsed for delivering a quality operation by meeting stringent environmental and occupational health and safety criteria in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
Hertel was certified for the provision of industrial services including insulation, abrasive blasting, protective coatings, passive fire protection, provision of offshore personnel and the erection and dismantling of access scaffolding.
The company currently employs more than 300 staff across a variety of disciplines, of which 97% are local residents.
The awards were presented by international inspection, verification, testing and certification body SGS, who are responsible for assessing that products, systems or services meet governmental requirements.
Samson Arakelyan, Hertel’s HSEQ Manager in Kazakhstan, commented: “ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 compliance is a great achievement. We were able to draw on the best practice techniques of our sister companies in Bahrain and Singapore, while tailoring the standards to meet stringent Kazakhstan guidelines.
“The award is not only important to us, but also our customers. Our goal has always been to deliver a safe and quality operation and certification allows us to verify our performance.”
John Bowmaker, Hertel’s General Manager Kazakhstan, added: “Hertel is committed to the highest standards in quality, safety and productivity. The SGS seal of approval helps us to demonstrate our integrity and we intend to promote the certification where possible.”
Hertel entered Kazakhstan with the acquisition of PFP Caspian in May 2009. Since then, Hertel has grown the company, supporting customers such as Keppel Kazakhstan, KazStroyService and Karachaganak Petroleum amongst others in the country’s growing oil and gas industries.
