Hertel wins scaffolding contract at Isle of Grain CHP plant
Hertel has been awarded a scaffolding contract from Alstom Thermal Systems for the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) project on the Isle of Grain in Kent. Hertel is already undertaking insulation, heat tracing and rope access tasks as part of the new build contract for Alstom.
Hertel was rewarded the contract after the previous scaffolding contractor went into administration. The company made all scaffolding personnel on the site redundant, and Alstom were faced with delays as it organised new suppliers.
Hertel brought together a management team on site early next morning in an attempt to minimise the disruption to site operations. After issuing offers of employment to the sacked workers, Hertel now has around 100 scaffolding personnel at the Alstom site.
Fabien Scheurer, Project Manager for Alstom Thermal Systems, said: “We are very pleased with the way Hertel's project management team has supported the new build project so far, and particularly during the changeover. Hertel's management and team were supportive and responded quickly to incorporate the scaffolding contract into the existing insulation contract we employed them for.
Ian O'Neill, Hertel Site Manager said: “The project at the Isle of Grain will move forward much more quickly now that Hertel can offer an integrated approach with its insulation, heat tracing and scaffolding services.”
Kevin Williamson, Hertel Regional Manager added: “Adding the scaffold contract with Alstom is a great result for Hertel on this new build contract. We now have an opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of having one company providing multi-discipline services across a site.”
