Automotive
The automotive industry faces increasing challenges to make engines more efficient to satisfy the growing responsibility to meet increasingly demanding emissions standards.
When faced with a technical challenge, our name crops up quite quickly.
Truck manufacturer DAF came to Hertel Industrial Sealings when they were developing their next generation of truck engines. During the development of the engines, DAF carefully looked into all possible leakage points in order to meet emissions standards and increase reliability. Brass seal rings on the injectors were causing considerable leakages causing in particular the fuel filter to clog up quickly.
Working in conjunction with DAF, Hertel developed a new seal using graphite as the material. Initial tests showed that the new seal worked, and over a one year period of life-testing by DAF, Hertel fine-tuned the shape of the ring to achieve the ultimate sealant.
Now in production, Hertel are producing the seals for 240 trucks per day, each including six injectors.
The close relationship built has solved the problem, and helped the client to achieve their targets in terms of emissions and reliability.
