For instance, The Audacia is a 225-meter long bulk carrier, which was converted into a pipe laying vessel used in the extraction of oil and gas at sea. Hertel Defence & Offshore built the accommodation for the 240-strong crew - an exacting project started from a bare hull and with completion ten months later.
With all of the disciplines required to carry out a job of this size available in-house, Hertel carried out the insulation works and carpentry, and looked after the E-installations, W-installations, the cooling and all the furnishings. On peak days some 250 people were on site.
The crew quarters on the Audacia consist of five floors of cabins, complete with sanitary facilities, changing rooms, recreation facilities and a fully equipped hospital. There is also a floor which houses the kitchen, laundry, the mess room and other general areas. The larger cabins and the bridge are located on the top deck, the bridge deck. Works involved included supply- and drain pipes, electrics, alarm systems and data cable work, all in compliance with the stringent safety directives of the offshore-industry.
