Hertel grows further with new acquisitions

In 2006 Hertel embarked on a strategy designed to bring global growth and expand its range of services. Since then a number of acquisitions and start-ups have been made throughout the world, building Hertel into a global industrial services partner with over 12,000 employees.

Today Hertel can announce further acquisitions, bringing further development to the scope of services offered to customers, and expanding the geographic footprint.

Joost Knoll, Hertel CEO commented “We continue with our strategy of investing in the company, acquiring companies where there is a cultural and strategic fit.

“These latest acquisitions mark new milestones for Hertel, and bring further benefits to our customers. In the Offshore segment, new expertise complements the existing business, delivering real added value for our customers and building on our strategy to become a lifecyle partner in the industry.

“In China, we started a joint venture in 2006 with a prestigious engineering company, Yanda Engineering Shanghai, on the invitation of existing customers in Germany. The joint venture has proved to be a success, and today we build on this with the acquisition of Yanda’s mechanical business, adding piping and fabrication services to the existing insulation and tracing services of the joint venture.

“Our strategy has proven to work well for both Hertel and our customers. The success is down to our people and our culture. I look forward to seeing all of these great organisations thrive under the Hertel banner, and welcome all of the new people and customers that join us.”

Quest Worldwide – Aberdeen, UK

Quest Worldwide operates in the offshore sector, specialising in the design, engineering management and construction supervision of offshore Living Quarters. In addition, Quest offers further expertise in the design of technical buildings for the energy industry.

Mark Witjens, Management Board Director Offshore, explains “Quest forms a very compelling addition to the Offshore segment for Hertel, customers of Hertel, and customers of Quest alike.

“This is a young company with a lot of expertise, and forms a perfect fit with our existing capability in the UK.”

In 2007, Hertel acquired McGill Services in Teesside. McGill has proven to be a success, and having being fully integrated into the company was renamed Hertel in January 2010. Since joining Hertel cross border collaboration has thrived, with teams working together on projects in the UK and the Netherlands, sharing knowledge, experience and capacity.

Mark Witjens concludes, “Quest have a great reputation in Aberdeen, an important region for us, as well as global experience. This acquisition will bring us closer to our customers, help us to further understand their needs, and of course, deliver products and services that help them achieve their goals.”

Yanda Mechanical - Shanghai, China

Based in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP), Shanghai Yanda Engineering is a modern construction and installation enterprise, with a wide range of expertise in the chemical, electronic, pharmaceutical and food industries.

The core services of Yanda include construction, prefabricated piping supply, chemical plant equipment and pressure vessel fabrication, Ultra High Purity (UHP) pipe welding and installation.

The acquisition sees the Mechanical business unit of Yanda join the Hertel Yanda joint venture.

Simon Kramer, Hertel Management Board Director Asia Pacific: “The Hertel Yanda joint venture was Hertel’s first step into Asia. Following the success of the joint venture in insulation and tracing works, the addition of Mechanical services is a natural progression.

“The synergy of Hertel’s expertise in delivering services and Yanda’s technical engineering expertise make for a compelling proposition.”
