Hertel powers up for Drax contract
Drax power station in Selby has awarded a three year contract to multi-discipline maintenance and construction services provider, Hertel.
Up to 136 Hertel staff will be responsible for access, scaffolding, thermal insulation, painting and asbestos management at the site.
Work began at the power station in October 2011 and is scheduled to run for three years, with the option of two further one year contracts on successful completion.
Drax power station is the UK’s largest and most efficient coal-fired power station with an output capacity of 4,000 megawatts.
In addition to Drax in the UK, the power stations Hertel works at include Aberthaw, Fiddlers Ferry and Wylfa.
Commenting on the contract win, Dave McCloughlin, Hertel’s Regional Director for the East said: “As a major power supplier in the UK, we’re proud to be working with Drax power station. The contract represents a major coup for Hertel. Our sector expertise and culture of continuous development helped us to stand out from our competitors.”
Sean Barry, Maintenance Manager at Drax, continued: “The contract was awarded to Hertel based on the company’s extensive experience in the power generation sector and the innovative techniques demonstrated during the tender process. Hertel was also recommended for its strong reporting and safety management system and drive to continually improve company standards. I am confident that staff will be able to meet the challenges of the site.”
David Fitzsimons, Managing Director of Hertel UK, added: “The project win is a major achievement for Hertel and a reflection of our efforts to deliver in a competitive industry. To be singled-out for our safety commitment is also something of note as safety is a focal point for the company. We look forward to working with Drax on this thriving site.”
