Million safe hours achieved by Hertel at Pulau Bukom site
A landmark of one million man-hours without a lost-time incident has been achieved by Hertel, the multi-disciplinary maintenance services company, at Shell’s Pulau Bukom manufacturing site in Singapore.
Hertel provides a range of services including scaffolding, insulation and painting in several parts of the site. It has been working at Pulau Bukom since late 2009 with a team of more than 200 employees.
The Pulau Bukom manufacturing site is on an island southwest of Singapore’s mainland and is the largest global Shell refinery for crude distillation with a capacity of 500,000 barrels per day. It is also home to an Ethylene Cracker Complex and a Butadiene Extraction unit.
Bukom is a fully integrated oil and petrochemicals site following the completion of the Shell Eastern Petrochemicals Complex Project in May 2010, providing manufacturing facilities for fuels, lubricant base oils and specialty chemicals.
Lee Thompson, Hertel’s Site Manager, says: “In the true tradition of Hertel, safety is at the forefront of everything we do and this achievement demonstrates the important focus we place on delivering a safe and quality service. As part of our ‘Goal Zero’ philosophy, our safety supervisors work closely with all staff to ensure that each individual is making a contribution towards the overall safety of the site.
“It is important to celebrate success and essential to recognise the outstanding achievements at Bukom by extending big congratulations to all our employees. Hertel is leading the way in its safety performance and hopefully this will be the first of many milestones.”
A celebration was held to mark the milestone where awards were made to recognise the achievement.
