Major nuclear decommissioning win for Hertel in the UK
Multi-discipline construction and maintenance company Hertel has won a five-year framework contract as part of the Celadon Alliance for deplanting, demolition and asbestos (DD&A) removal across 10 Magnox power station sites.
Celadon is an alliance of Hertel, KDC and NSG specifically developed to deliver all aspects of the Magnox DD&A framework scope. It is exclusively supported by AMEC, MWH and Halcrow.
Magnox operates the sites on behalf of its owner, the NDA (Nuclear Decommissioning Authority) and has established a pioneering framework model. The framework, which was developed by working closely with the supply chain, will allow more efficient commercial arrangements between Magnox and Celadon, reduce tendering costs and provide a supply chain ‘toolbox’ to meet the needs of the various projects over the coming years.
The total framework value for demolition, de-planting and bulk asbestos removal is estimated to be £304 million over the five-year contract period. Celadon is one of only two contractors awarded a framework for all three of the work scopes.
The work is at the sites of the UK’s first generation of nuclear power stations and will start in the coming months.

The contract is the latest award for Hertel and helps reaffirm its position as a trusted partner in the nuclear industry in the UK.
