One global Hertel standard for Health, Safety and Environment

Hertel has a Global HSE Management Framework, ensuring that at every level, across the globe and in every discipline, our policy is deployed with the same commitment. Simultaneously our customers can be assured of the quality of our approach towards the activities we perform.

Focus on behaviour

The foundation of our HSE programme is the Hertel HSE Management Framework. This risk-based framework facilitates the structured management of HSE hazards and effects that are associated with the business. By means of the HSE Management Framework, Hertel’s global HSE team is collecting knowledge and sharing expertise across the organisation, continuously improving our work practices and developing all employees with the focus on behavioural aspects. We say what we do and do what we say!

Hertel has translated the HSE Management Framework into practical programmes that together we call the Target Zero programme. We create the conditions to make sure that safety is in the hearts and minds of our people, and that they have the tools and skills available to execute their work activities as safely as possible amongst others via Life Saving Rules, TimeOut programme and Continuous Risk Assessments. 

Developing our people

The development programme provides a balanced mix of theory and practical skills; skills that help our people motivate their teams to work in the safest possible manner. As well as giving our employees an in depth understanding of the safety challenges we face, the programme provides communication line (top-down and bottom-up) and team working skills necessary to work safely.

Sharing knowledge locally, globally

Site Safe Visits and regular toolbox talks; giving tailored instructions to our people that are focussed specifically on the work they are carrying out. Everyone in Hertel has a responsibility to contribute to safer operations and to actively bring forward issues and discuss solutions. This contributes to a platform for sharing knowledge and best practices from all of our locations, as well as with other contractors and third parties.

Target Zero

With about 10,000 people of over 50 different nationalities, we make sure everyone is safe. The programmes we have in place are helping us to achieve an excellent performance, and we are committed to continuous improvement until we reach our goal: Zero Incidents.
